Last week Kevin in my “Soul Speaks” group said he saw a bumper sticker on his drive into class that said “F*!k 2016.” This is a common theme I have heard from so many personally and professionally this year. “This has been the worst year yet” is a common sentiment response when greeting someone with “How’s it going?”

2016 is a year of completion – the end of the 9-Year Cycle. 2016 (2 + 0 + 1 + 6 = 9) is a 9 Universal Year in numerology. The number 9 represents the frequencies of completion, reflection, and service. You’ve probably noticed the theme of endings or completion showing up big time this year, in the outer world and possibly in your own life. In the alternative healing world it is believed that the rite of page occurs every 8 years, and the 9th year is the year of completion, moving individually and collectively to complete and finish everything we have been doing the last 9 years, since 2007.

Think back to what was taking place in your life in 2007; are you witnessing some parallel themes coming up in your life now? Some of these themes may feel empowering and some maybe not so much. This is not a fluke. This is a strong response that displays which energies and patterns it is time to address and complete before walking into 2017.

Think about it. Where have you been struggling in 2016 in the areas of career, relationships, money, stability, employees and strategic partners? What previously could have been tolerated or overlooked can no longer be viscerally tolerated – that is what I am hearing from many. I have had people say to me, “I’ve been wrestling with this for 3, 5, 7 years and I can’t take it another year. I need to come to a place of decision, a place of completion with this.”

We are all being invited to fully emerge as people who are compassionate, contributing and difference-making, and to shed anything that no longer serves you.

Once I learned of this viewpoint back in October, I instantly felt reassured. I felt like I wasn’t the only crazy person walking around with very little patience and acceptance for narcissistic people lacking awareness, accountability and responsibility. I quickly whipped out the pad and pen and listed all of the crap I was tolerating. I invite you to do the same and make a commitment to YOURSELF that you will clean up or end all that you’ve been tolerating and shed anything that no longer serves you without guilt or apology.

Finish up the remaining lesson of 2016, because 2017 is the year of rebirth, the year of “1.” And then the cycle repeats; 2026 will be the next year of completion. I put a reminder in my calendar for October 2026 to remind myself to take stock of what I need to complete. Now that I have this awareness, it will be fascinating to see if the tonality is similarly “this has been the worst year yet.”

Don’t bring one speck of it into 2017.

Now is the time to ponder a few potent questions:

  • What would you like to create more of in your life?
  • What patterns are you ready to let go of?
  • What are your boundaries and deal breakers?
  • What are your top three time wasters that do not serve your higher purpose?
  • What personal relationships are energy suckers that you walk away from, time and time again, feeling exhausted and depleted?
  • What are the top three things you are forever procrastinating on that you just need to say goodbye to or hire someone else to do?
  • Where in your life are you hiding out and not living up to your full potential because of fear?

Start being really honest with yourself and getting crystal clear about these questions now, in preparation for creating your most gratifying life as we enter the year of 1, of rebirth in 2017.

This work is not for the weak, but I can promise you that the crucial clearing conversations and decisions you make in the few days that remain in 2016 days will serve you abundantly in the year of 1 moving into the new 9-year cycle, without resolutely gripping onto what belongs in the past.
