Most people don’t jump out of bed thinking, “I feel like doing this today.” Instead, you must force yourself to act to reach your dreams. Waiting for motivation leads to inaction, leaving you stuck and frustrated.
At our company, we hear from business owners and staff every week who know exactly what they want. They can vividly describe their ideal life—how they’ll spend their time, the income they’ll earn, and the freedom they’ll enjoy.
The problem? Despite knowing their goals, they aren’t achieving them. Even with established systems and excellent service, they fall short, sometimes even losing progress.
Why You Must Force Yourself to Act
The issue isn’t broken systems; it’s excuses. These “reasons” are what stop you from achieving your goals. Here are the top five excuses we hear:
- I don’t have time.
- I’m waiting for X.
- I’ve already tried that, and it didn’t work.
- I don’t know how.
- “We” instead of “I.”
To move forward, stop making excuses and start taking personal responsibility. Replace “we” with “I” when focusing on your actions.
How does “Force Yourself to Act” Drives Success
If you truly want to achieve your goals, you need to force yourself to act consistently. It’s not enough to complete tasks passively; focus on meaningful actions that drive results, such as:
- Making cold calls and follow-ups
- Attending networking events
- Writing personalized emails
- Sending handwritten notes
If you’re not where you want to be, 10X your human connections. Commit to direct communication—whether it’s calls, meetings, or face-to-face interactions.
Accountability and the Force Yourself to Act
Accountability is crucial for success. Build it into your routine by declaring weekly “FORCE” goals and holding yourself and your team accountable.
For example, set a goal like:
“I will make 20 calls daily from 8:30–10:30 a.m., follow up with emails, and copy my accountability partner for the next 90 days.”
By forcing yourself to stick to these actions, you’ll form new habits and start enjoying the process as results pour in.
Overcome Fear by Forcing Yourself to Act
Jim Carrey once said:
“The decisions we make in this moment are based in either love or fear.”
Don’t let fear or excuses prevent you from achieving your dreams. Your success lies in the actions you force yourself to take, no matter how uncomfortable or daunting they may seem.
