Overcoming business overwhelm can feel paralyzing. “I am lucky if I will make enough to cover overhead this month. We are not going to reach our goal, the month is half over, and I’m just going to hit the ground running in November. I need to get work out, finish the content for our new website, and I have this intern sitting here staring at me. I think I’m just going to send them home because I don’t even know exactly what I need them to do.”
Overcoming Business Overwhelm with a Simple Exercise
“Diane, stop. Close your eyes, and I want you to put your hand on your heart and take three deep, cleansing breaths … 5 counts in … 8 counts out. Again.”
What stands out about this call is this solopreneur’s awareness and willingness to reach out before worry consumed her.
When heart palpitations kick in, it’s a signal to act. In our experience, this means you need to do something immediately. Tony Robbins refers to emotions as “emotions in motion.” Until you take even a small step, you remain stuck in worry. It’s time to take action—any action—to restore clarity and confidence.
Overcoming Business Overwhelm: Why Worry Persists Without Action
Worry often stems from a lack of information. When we dwell in uncertainty without action, the worry lingers. The only way to gain the clarity you need is to take action.
A path of intentional growth involves structured action. Take 30 minutes (without turning this into another project) and complete the following steps:
Step 1: Identify the Source of the Panic
- Ask yourself powerful questions:
- I no longer want to be doing…
- I really want to be doing…
- If I waved a magic wand, I would stop…
- If I waved a magic wand, I would start…
Step 2: Brainstorm & Write It Down
- List every worry, big and small, on paper.
Step 3: Take Immediate Action
- Pick three of the simplest items on your list and act on them immediately. Don’t overthink—just act to create momentum.
Step 4: Share and Delegate
- Share your list with a coach or a trusted team member.
- Schedule the remaining actions for yourself or delegate them to others.
Step 5: Shift Towards Growth
- By taking these steps, you shift towards intentional and controlled growth without anxiety and uncertainty.
Overcoming business overwhelm for Empowerment
Nothing is more frustrating than knowing you need to take action (like hiring help) but feeling stuck in “I don’t know how.” Making decisions that involve time, money, or operational changes can feel intimidating, especially if past attempts didn’t work. Once you acknowledge your worries, you enter “awareness hell”—you recognize what you can no longer tolerate but feel overwhelmed by the action required to fix it.
The truth? The task is never as daunting as our minds make it seem. What magnifies the challenge is keeping the worry bottled up. By taking structured action, you eliminate panic, create space to breathe, and gain the clarity needed to take your next steps.
